A 15ct Gold & Enamel Royal Artillery (The Gunners) sweetheart bar brooch dating from WWI, The brooch has a crown with red enamel detail above a blue enamel panel with the word ‘UBIQUE’ (Everywhere) on it. This is above a cannon beneath which on a blue enamel panel is the regimental motto ‘”QUO FAS ET GLORIA DUCUNT” (Wherever right and glory lead). Both the badge and bar are stamped 15CT for 15 carat gold, a form of gold discontinued in Britain in 1932 which allows dating this brooch to WWI. The catch has a clever locking mechanism to prevent loss. The Royal Artillery was formed in 1799 and played a major role on the Western Front during WWI. The brooch weighs 3.09g and measures 45mm by 17mm.
